LakeWood Regional Healthcare Foundation was incorporated on December 10, 1997. The creation of the Foundation stemmed from the concern of a few interested idividuals. Their concern was about what kind of healthcare services could be expected in the future for more remote, rural parts of the country, such as the Lake of the Woods area.
Another growing concern was the age and effectiveness of LakeWood Health Center’s existing physical facilities. Though both facilities had served the community well, they were not arranged, equipped, or otherwise suited to efficiently serve future needs.
The Foundation Board, along with the administration of LakeWood Health Center, spent several years developing a Master Facility Plan to meet the challenges that the continuing changes in national and local healthcare will pose in the future.
The successful result of this planning was the completion of the two-phased $8.1 million Building and Modernization Project. This included construction of a new Patient Services Area, including a new acute care Patient Wing, the updating and modernization of the existing hospital facility and clinic, and construction of a new Skilled-care Nursing facility on the Hospital's present campus to replace the older LakeWood Care Center.
